Moments in time
mum and I - oil on linen canvas
Throughout my painting ‘Moments in Time’ The use of oil paint on canvas has allowed me to paint a self-portrait image of myself at a young age with my mother. Capturing a moment in time of me swinging on monkey bars during my first days of preschool. The diptych expresses the impact memories have on the people we are today. The playful body language communicated in the figures and colour represents the youth from past memories that we as individuals carry with us. My intent is to communicate the power our past experiences have on shaping the people we not only show up to be but how we see yourselves in this current day. The fears, joys, strengths, weaknesses and emotions that live deep within us are shaped by our memories. The gift and power memories give us as individuals to recall and transcend back to past lived moments in time. My intentional use of negative space is used to highlight the strong emotions associated with my memories. Additionally, the raw linen canvas between these figures signifies the separation of these two events in space and time.
Bound
OIL ON CANVAS
Throughout my painting “bound” I have depicted a girl being strangled by a rope, this was done to illustrate the significant impacts of the brutality women are subjected to in today’s society such as sexual assault and harassment. We live in a society where women are screaming for help but are silenced, not only by the perpetrator but laws which stop us from gaining justice. Through painting techniques such as the muted thick colours of paint and a boxed in composition I have aimed to demonstrate to audiences the immense physical and mental scars left on victims. Giving a glimpse into how a victim may feel as if they are suffocating due to the inescapable fears of being a woman in the society we live in today.
From beginning to end.

My interpretation of the way scripture provides a bridge between heaven and earth allowed me to create a piece which looks primarily at the way God’s creation is apparent all around me. I responded to the theme through my love of abstract forms and a quote from Ecclesiastes 3-11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” My vibrant colour palette is based on my love of beauty in the landscape and how nature provides numerous reflective opportunities even though sometimes they are transient experiences. Those precious moments on earth are like those experiences in nature reminding us of the great beauty which awaits in heaven.
Oniomania
Through my multimedia portrait painting, I strive to capture the depleting impacts of overconsumption and the overwhelming stimulation that characterizes our modern society. By depicting a woman who embodies the debilitating effects of excessive consumption, I am to ignite introspection and critical thinking about the consequences of our collective choices. Through the use of used receipts and expressive brushstrokes I create a visual composition that conveys the chaos and sensory overload of those experiencing the destructive nature of consumerism.

Terra Firma
Through this abstract oil painting, I have represented my personal connection to land, my Australian home. In utilising acrylic paint as a primary medium, this has allowed me to create a representation of the layers in which allow rock forms to exist as we see then today. Inspired by my time immersed within the vibrant landscape Karijini national park, this work is closely connected with my sustained relationship with the natural oasis that surrounds me.
Through the purposeful choice of shape, tone and structure creating a cohesive pattern across my canvas, I have communicated my impressions of the erosions, diversity and intricacies of Australian earth painted from my memory.

Indehiscent
Throughout my portrait ‘Indehiscent’, I’ve exhibited the strains on females to appear elegant, glamorous and alluring within the constraints of society. Revealing through the depiction of the flower that amidst these social expectations lies each woman’s passion and drive to achieve personal growth. I delve into the concept of female growth through the illustration of a prosperous Gardenia flower. Through vibrant colours and dynamic brushstrokes, I aim to capture the journey of self-discovery and desire for adventure that women hold beyond what is expected of them.

Hue
In my abstract work I explore the profound depts of human emotion through the intricate interplay of blue hues. Each brushstroke and blending of colours represent the complex tapestry of unique melancholy emotions each person can experience. The use of blue tones evokes a sense of tranquillity, reflecting the serene facade that can mask the disturbance brewing beneath the surface seen by others. By merging and layering various shades of navy and Celestian Blue I aim to mirror the fluidity and ever-changing nature of human emotions. I have used this as an invitation to acknowledge and celebrate the vast range of emotions that shape us as diverse individuals, subsequently fostering a sense of self-acceptance and empathy towards others.
Lounging
My artwork seeks to portray the playful nature of femininity, through pastel blush colours and fluid brushstrokes and the delicate depiction of the female form, I aim to capture the essence of joy, freedom and self-expression women exude. By showcasing the beauty and vitality of the female spirit, I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the multifaceted nature of femininity and promote the importance of embracing one’s playful side.
Bleue (feminine)
By portraying this figure in her nakedness, I strip away the societal constructs and expectations that often confine and limit women. In doing so, I allow her to emerge in all her authenticity and truth, encouraging viewers to embrace their own self-expression and individuality. The use of the colour blue in this artwork symbolises introspection, emotions and the ethereal nature of existence. Representing the inner depths of ones being, while the white serves as a canvas that highlights the vulnerability and purity of the subject. Within the strokes of my brush I weave the stories of individuals triumphs, struggles and moments of enlightenment that shape the person they show up to be.

Throughout this vibrant energetic pink abstract painting, I am to encapsulate the essence of joy and its profound impact on our ability to fully embrace the present moment This painting serves to pose audiences to undertake self-reflection, urging viewers to appreciate their personal relationship with joy and its transformative power. The juxtaposition of the bold and delicate hues serves as a visual representation of my experience of joy, found in both the grandest of gestures and the tiniest of details.
